My Favorite Movie

On this page I wanted to post some information about a really classic movie, which also happens to be one of my personal favorites. I’ve enjoyed movies a long time, and for many years I have always preferred spending the Friday and Saturday nights in the sofa with some popcorn and a good film rather than going out and partying all night. I also love going to the cinema with my friends, and all in all you could say that film is one of my main interests in life. So, in 2005 me and a couple of friends went to see a new movie that was premiering in my hometown, and that movie was called A Good Woman, and I immediately fell in love with the movie.

The scene is set in the beautiful 1930’s, with excellent costumes and surroundings. In New York, seductress Mrs. Erlynne, who have spent years strutting around in the high society as a socialite, discovers that the people she once was able to twine around her fingers have now rejected her. With no place to go, and with no money in her pocket, she decides to sell off clothes and jewelry in order to buy a one way ticket to Italy, where she plans to start a new life.

Once arrived in a town called Amalfi, she soon sets eyes on on the rich men that live in the town, just like she used to in New York. This steers up a world of trouble for everyone involved and the we get a great insight of what life’s like for a true femme fatale.

The Movie is based on a play written by no other than Oscar Wilde, called Lady Windermere’s Fan which was written in 1892, and this Movie that I’m talking about is actually the fourth adoption that have been released over the years. However, it’s also by far the most popular and critically acclaimed one. The lead role is played by Hollywood star Helen Hunt, who splendidly plays the role of the seductive Mrs. Erlynne, supported by the beautiful Scarlett Johansen who plays Meg Windermere, who is the wife of the man Mrs. Erlynne is trying to win over, Robert Windermere. Robert is played by the ever brilliant Mark Umbers.

So what is it that I like so much about this movie? Well first of all, it has two of my favorite actors starring in it, Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johansen. Both are acknowledged actors in the height of their careers, and in this movie we get to see them in roles that we usually don’t get to see them in. I’ve also loved movies which are set in historical times, and the 1930’s have always been interesting to me, and I think the clothes worn in the movie are absolutely gorgeous. The whole spirit of the movie gives me a nice feeling. Further on, being British, I have always enjoyed the works of Oscar Wilde, although I have to say that even though this movie is based on one of his plays, a lot of the Wilde-ism have been taken away.

All in all, I would definitely recommend any one who hasn’t seen this masterpiece to go see it!
